1971년작 캐롤 킹의 [Tapestry]는 설명이 필요없는 70년대 팝음악의 대표적인 걸작 중 하나입니다.  발매 당시 1천만장 이상의 판매고를 기록하며 [Frampton Comes Alive](Peter Frampton, 1976년) 등장 이전까지 미국내에서 가장 많이 팔린 음반으로 기록될 만큼 상업성 + 음악성을 모두 겸비한 보기 드문 작품이었습니다.

최근 발매 37주년을 맞아 미공개 공연실황을 포함한 2디스크 버전의 [Legacy Edition] (Sony/BMG 산하의 재발매 전문 레이블인 Legacy에서 출시하는 2디스크 리마스터링 시리즈)이 발매되어 관심을 모으고 있습니다.

디스크1은 기존 출시된 음반의 리마스터링 트랙을 그대로 담고 있으며 디스크2는 1972-1976년 사이 녹음된 캐롤 킹의 공연 실황을 담고 있는데 여태껏 공개되지 않았던 트랙으로 구성된 것이 이채롭습니다.

특히 다른 악기 연주 없이 캐롤의 피아노와 보컬로만 구성되어 스튜디오 원곡과 대비를 이루는 , 나름대로 맛깔나는 음악을 들려줍니다.  (디지팩 구성에 미공개 사진을 포함한  북클릿 포함)

[Calling All Stations]는 1996년 공식적으로 팀을 떠난 필 콜린스(Phil Collins)의 후임 보컬리스트로 록밴드 스틸트스킨 출신의 레이 윌슨(Ray Wilson)을 새롭게 영입하고 발표한 첫번째 스튜디오 음반입니다.(그를 대신한 드럼 연주는 Nir Zidkyahu, Nick D'Virgilio - 프로그레시브 록 그룹 스폭스 비어드 Spocks's Beard 출신 - 이 밑아주고 있습니다)

사전지식없이 이음반을 듣는다면 80년대 AOR 스타일의 새로운 밴드가 발표한 음악으로 생각할 수 있을 정도로 이전 제네시스와는 다른 음악을 들려주고 있습니다. 그런 탓에 상업적으로나 음악적으로 참담한 실패를 기록했습니다. 이후 제네시스는 10년간 활동 중단에 들어가고 맙니다 (다행히 지난해 필 콜린스를 중심으로 재결합-컴백 공연에 돌입했습니다)

그럼에도 불구하고 나름대로 들을 만한 트랙들을 담고 있습니다. 'Congo', 'One Man's Fool'등은 그런대로 오랜 연륜에서 나오는 좋은 연주를 들려주고 있습니다. 다만 아쉽다면 이 음악들이 다른 밴드가 아닌, '제네시스'라는 이름을 달고 나왔다는 점입니다. 다른 밴드가 이런 음악을 들려줬다면..과연 이정도 비판이 나왔을까요? 궁금합니다.
